Thomas Morris grew up in Duluth and attended college at the University of Wisconsin, Superior where he received his Bachelor of Music and Masters in Science Teaching degrees. He played trumpet in the Duluth-Superior Symphony Orchestra and was an active player with the Duluth Musicians Union summer Concert Band. After teaching instrumental music at Duluth Cathedral H.S. for four years and two years at Superior Senior H.S. he became band director at South St. Paul High School in 1975. The last 30 years has seen Tom working in the elementary band programs in the South St. Paul schools. Mr. Morris will begin his 35th year of teaching instrumental music this fall.
Tom enjoys playing trumpet and continues to perform as a soloist at weddings, church services and other functions in the Twin Cities area. He has his own 5 piece variety band called the "Accidentals" that has played at hundreds of wedding receptions, dances and music functions over the years.
Mr. Morris enjoys working with the many fine musicians in the community band setting. He finds it very exciting to pick out and read new music and plan and prepare for the variety of concerts throughout the year. Becoming conductor of Inver Hills Community Band has been a very challenging experience.
