New Music
Spring and Summer 2004
|
We are very excited about the new music in this folder. Many hours of listening, review and evaluation have taken place in order to pick out the music selections for the spring and summer concerts.
We receive important funding from the City of Inver Grove Heights to perform the three outdoor Summer Pops Concerts. 60% of the music in this folder is geared toward those performances and the college commencement performance. The other percentage is for symphonic music to be performed at our spring auditorium concert.
Thanks to your donation and the donation of other band members we are able to purchase many wonderful new band works for use throughout the year. We will continue to use pieces from the college library also.
One of our goals was to have a nice variety of styles. This is good for the audience and also for the musicians. The categories we looked for were: Marches, Movie themes, Broadway hits, Big Band Swing, Light Pop, Latin, Rock N' Roll, American Folk/Patriot, Symphonic, Section Soli and Solo features. The symphonic literature will be the most challenging and better suited for the indoor performance. Certain pieces will take many rehearsals to prepare and others will not. Our summer concerts continue to grow in audience attendance and we have a greater number of quality pieces to pick from.
This past fall Inver Hills Community Band worked up 19 new band works for the December concerts. We were able to accomplish this thanks to you all. Having the music early and doing some home preparation saved us valuable rehearsal time. We thank you for all your efforts and value your participation and loyalty.
Merry Christmas, Happy Hanukkah, Happy New Year!
Thank you,
Thomas Morris, Director
Allison Allen, Manager
