How To Join

If you are serious about joining Inver Hills Community Band please read thru the following information.

Band Statement:
Inver Hills Community Band is a growing organization that strives to perform quality music in a variety of different performance venues. We welcome new members but do expect a certain skill level from all players in order for the band to perform the large quantity and quality of band repertoire we play throughout the year.

Expectations:
Good attendance at Monday night rehearsals is imperative. (7:00 - 8:30 PM). We need to have a commitment from all members to perform at concerts or programs scheduled. Please refer to the IHCB guidelines for a detailed list of all membership expectations, rules, guidelines, etc.

Audition Requirements:
Entry into Inver Hills Community Band will be by a short audition consisting of a few major scales, scale in thirds, arpeggios and a chromatic scale. Short Etudes in various meters will be used. Audition time will be approximately 10 minutes in length.

This audition music has been very carefully put together to be fair to the prospective band member and also to Inver Hills Community Band. Since we are not expecting sight-reading as part of this process, the scales and etudes will weigh heavily on whether you will be accepted. We ask that you allow enough time to prepare yourself for a successful audition before you call for an audition time. Everybody that does an audition has his or her degree of nervousness. If you prepare hard enough, the audition goes better for you. We do not expect a perfect score to pass but you must show us you have good playing skills to join a very good performing band.

Audition Scheduling Process:
Auditions will be scheduled on Mondays in 10 minute blocks between 6:00 - 6:45 p.m. in the Inver Hills Community College Fine Arts Building. There is a practice room for you to warm-up. You must be on time and ready to go or you may have to forfeit your time for that evening. The conductor and sometimes a section leader will be evaluating the audition. Please contact the band using the Contact Us page to set up an audition time. You will be notified immediately after your audition of the results. If you fall short of passing the audition you may re-audition at a later date.
